How to prepare for a professional headshot session
The goal of headshot preparation is not to become someone else on camera. It is to arrive with enough clarity that the images can serve the role you need them for.
Define where the image will live
A LinkedIn profile, company website, speaker bio, casting submission, and personal brand can call for different choices. Name the primary use before the session so the expression, crop, background, and wardrobe can support it.
Choose simple wardrobe options
Bring clean, comfortable clothing that fits well and feels appropriate for your audience. Solid colors and layers can give you options without distracting from your face. Avoid relying on a single unfamiliar outfit.
Share helpful references
If your organization has a preferred style or you have a visual reference, share it during booking. A reference is a starting point for conversation, not a promise to duplicate another photographer's work.
